Who Owns The Future? Wealth Tax Webinar
In May, we hosted a webinar covering one of the most hotly debated contemporary issues: wealth taxes!
Our webinar was with one of Ireland's leading voices on the issue of wealth taxes, Dr.Tom McDonnell. Dr. McDonnell is the co-director of the Nevin Economic Research Institute (NERI) and a lead researcher on Oxfam’s recent report on wealth inequality.
We were delighted to have him lead us through some of the key issues, and respond to questions on how the tax system could work in support of a fairer and more sustainable world.
This webinar offers an introduction to how wealth is defined, how it might be taxed, and why this is such a pressing issue for all of us in the context of soaring inequality, the rise of the right, and a decline in democracy. Meaningful wealth taxes are increasingly seen as vital tools for a functioning democracy to safeguard public goods and manage the distribution of resources. This session aims to increase our confidence in discussing and debating these issues, and to assess policies for meaningful change.
