'Economics from a Global Justice Perspective' 6 Week Course for Members of the Public (starting 11 April)

'Econo-wha?' is a six-week course starting Monday 11 April for any member of the public who is interested in learning about economics from a global justice perspective. Taking place on the dates shown below, the course will be split into sessions, with three facilitated online and the remaining three dedicated to remote reading, reflection, and peer learning.

Course outline

The course is designed to support us as we question why things are the way they are, before exploring what we can all do to try and work towards a more just and global society. It aims to uncover a variety of perspectives on key economic concepts and explore topics, including:

• The impact of financialisation;
• Why debt crises keep happening around the globe;
• The role of corporations in paying tax;
• Climate change and the global financial system;
• The link between the economy, inequality and wellbeing; and
• The role of citizens, communities and governments in creating economic alternatives that put people and the planet before profit.

Course dates 

Starting with an online session on Monday 11 April 2022 from 7 to 9 pm, then every Monday until 16 May 2022, sessions will alternate weekly between online facilitated sessions and remote/peer learning.

Tickets are priced at €50 (waged) and €25 (unwaged) and can be purchased from Eventbrite.

Themes

The themes we'll explore connect the experiences of people living in Ireland and Europe with people all over the world, and put the voices of communities in struggle, and social movement participants to the fore.
